As children, our fantasies
and games took place in a
world free of time, space,
and causality. In imagination
we journeyed to secret worlds
of enchantment full of strange
and wondrous creatures.
Working with polarities--
good and bad, beautiful
and ugly--fairy tales enlarge
upon those fantasies telling
of the marvelous adventures
of heros and heroines, princes
and princesses, for whom
everything seems to work out
in the end. As we move through
life our personal struggles often
seem mythic and we never lose
our desire to live happily ever
after. fractured fairy tales
presents five artists whose
works revisit the magical and
sometimes frightening aspects
of childhood.
