poetic information
presents work by a group
of artists who utilize language,
imagery, and personal
iconography in investigations
into the confluence of matter
and meaning. The works in
this exhibition function not
unlike rebus puzzles tripping
layers of associative and
cognitive clues like so many
switches in the mind. Poetry,
perhaps the most personal
of the arts, finds in the work
of these artists a visual
counterpart, taking form in
what Andre Breton first
described as "object poems...
which combine the resources
of poetry and the visual
arts, thus speculating on
the capacity of these two elements to excite each
other mutually". The artists
in this exhibition employ
varied poetic strategies to
generate such excitement. |
