Nancy
Olivier and Jim Osman will each transform a wall of the gallery
into a large scale site specific piece during the week before the
show opens. They will also be exhibiting smaller paintings and wall
inspired sculpture.
Jim Osman has created numerous site specific sculptures that
whimsically explore his interests in color and vernacular architecture.
For the exhibition WALL, he will create a large site specific fresco
of tinted plaster alluding to architectural and design concerns.
Additionally he will be presenting recent small sculptures that
combine an elegant minimalist sensibility with a humorous look at
brick face.
Nancy Olivier is known for her large scale wall paintings which
employ a wide variety of marks and drips to create a sense of controlled
chaos, smartly quoting formal concerns while declaring themselves
as deliciously decorative. She will be also exhibiting a number
of paintings on panel which celebrate her spontaneous yet highly
deliberate marks of dripped, stenciled, and printed paint.
Both artists flirt with formalism, co-opting and subverting
it through quirky formats, eccentric grids, and a personal and idiosyncratic
use of color. |
