In the project space Stephanie Graegin exhibits a new suite of etchings with aquatint "Twelve Thoughts on Family and Other Incidents" that explore both the whimsy and the dark mystery of childhood. In a graphic style that draws on the tradition of such great narrative print makers as Edward Gorey, Kiki Smith, and Paula Rego, Graegin creates an imaginative world of familial interaction that is at once fanciful and menacing. Her images are rich with telling details that add a hide and seek delight to the narrative content. These highly accomplished etchings bring new vigor to the practice of printmaking.
Stephanie Graegin graduated with a BFA from Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore, Maryland in 2001. She is an MFA candidate in printmaking at Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, New York. She has previously exhibited her prints in Maryland and Texas. This is her first solo exhibition in NYC.
